THE BUSINESS

Hamtern Financial Services was established in January 2010 by Denis Ternent and Ian Graham, both of whom previously held executive management positions at Glenrand MIB, the only JSE-listed insurance broker and risk advisory company at the time.

Hamtern is an independent short-term broking business, focusing on providing insurance and risk advisory services to corporate and commercial enterprises. We also specialise in Contract Works insurance, Performance Guarantees and providing insurance solutions to high net-worth personal insurance needs.

This is achieved through a range of unique, tailor-made insurance products that have been developed with selected insurers and are available exclusively to Hamtern.

A cornerstone of our business philosophy is to establish long-term, tripartite relationships between our clients, the insurers and ourselves, to the mutual benefit of all parties.

Price is an important consideration in every business transaction, and whilst we strive to achieve the most competitive price, this is not done to the detriment of:

  • the scope and extent of cover provided by the insurer,

  • the financial security and reputation of the insurer, and

  • the service provided by the insurer.

Hamtern utilise a range of blue-chip insurers and underwriting managers, thereby ensuring that our clients receive the most competitive premium pricing, coupled with the broadest form of policy protection available in the market for each particular class of risk. Furthermore, Hamtern provides sustainable insurance and risk advisory solutions, in which each client’s particular insurance and risk management requirements are analysed and assessed, resulting in a bespoke insurance solution.

We also seek to place cover with reputable insurers who are ethical and held in high esteem by the insurance community and have a positive attitude toward the payment of claims.

Hamtern strictly adheres to the legislation governing “treating the customer fairly” and we act in a transparent manner in which we are not conflicted in the method in which we deal with both insurers and our clients. Our broking remuneration is also disclosed to each client for the advice and services rendered by Hamtern.

Hamtern has experienced exponential growth across a number of industry sectors, which include listed property portfolios, mining operations, construction, food and agriculture. We also cater for our clients’ operations in the rest of Africa and Europe.

We ascribe our success to clients aligning themselves to an independent broker who has the necessary skills and expertise and is totally committed to providing a superior service.
