Despite our best intentions, it is all of six months since our inaugural edition of Hamtern Connect. The passage of time for us has literally flown. It seems that as the Christmas festivities are" packed away" the Easter eggs are on the shelves then before one has taken a breath the winter woollies are out of the wardrobe!

In a brief review of the period, we sincerely believe that delivering on our stated business philosophies and principals expounded on in our last edition, has lead to wonderful client referrals and new business. The resultant growth we have experienced has been most satisfying n all areas from corporate and commercial businesses to an increased request for Guarantees and our Hamtern Personal Asset Care product which continues to go from strength to strength.

Welcome Joalane
Contractors All Risk Insurance
Awards
From Personal Asset Care

It was always our intention to complement our Insurance Guarantee offering with specialist insurance broking skills in the construction industry. In this regard we have recently had a welcome addition to the Hamtern team. Joalane Thelejane has a wealth of experience in this area of focus and we look forward to great things as Hamtern leverages the now resident skills and the many hundreds of capital projects in South Africa being undertaken. We are confident that the composite offering of Insurance Guarantees, together with Construction Insurance, will provide existing and prospective clients a rather unique offering.

The growth we have experienced, together with the initiatives mentioned, forced us to rethink the spacial adequacy of our current offices. As happy as we have been at Rivonia Gate, we truly believe that our new offices situated in the Wanderers Building in the Oval Office Park in Meadowbrook Lane in Bryanston (opposite Brescia School) will provide us with an equally pleasant environment. We relocated at the beginning of July and look forward to welcoming you at our new address in completely revamped office space. Our telephone numbers will however remain the same.

Please also take a moment to pay us a visit at our newly revamped website, a clear representation of evolving identity.

Notwithstanding these brief distractions, our ongoing promise is to deliver on an uncompromised level of service to you.

Until next time,

Ian, Denis and the team at Hamtern.

Joalane Thelejane has been in the insurance industry for 24 years, in both the insurance company market and broking environments. The last six years of Joalane's career were spent at Glenrand MIB (Aon) in the Construction & Engineering Division, where she focused on sourcing, placing and advising on Contract Works insurance, the associated Liabilities and Design & Construct Professional Indemnity on both annual and specific (one-off) contracts, involving both Contractor Insured and Principal Controlled (PCI) projects. Joalane is also skilled at reviewing and advising on contract conditions.

In nearly all building contracts, there are three classes of insurance which are specifically described as being necessary to effect, prior to commencement of work on site. Such covers are described as having to be effected by the principal or contractor.

a. Contractors all risks & Sasria – Covering property under construction

b. Public liability – Covering the liability to third parties

c. C.O.I.D – Covering injuries to employees on duty.

Hamtern was recently recognised for its work in the industry by MUA with the awards for Best Home Broker and Optimising Premium Income coming to Hamtern.

Car Jamming

The criminal practice of car jamming is an ongoing problem in South Africa, with no clear solution in sight. The scam involves a third party remote control being set on the same frequency as some manufacturer's remotes, which then jams the vehicle's remote control frequency, preventing the electronic central locking system from operating successfully.

Home Renovations

Another important issue, please don't forget to contact us should you be planning any renovations at your home. We need to advise the insurer on the extent and nature of the renovations so that they may underwrite the risk accordingly. Please keep in mind that should your security change due to these renovations, theft cover may be restricted or even excluded, depending on the degree to which the theft risk has been altered.
